We are delighted to announce that two Practical Vision Network employees are inspiring the next generation after becoming finalists at the prestigious Computing Women in IT Excellence Awards 2019.

Head of IT and Security Specialist, Jen Williams and Lead Web developer, Zoe Jones stood out from their peers with their exceptional submissions after the judges fervently went through the entries to find their outstanding shortlist for ‘Security Leader of the Year’ and ‘Team Leader of the Year (SME)’ categories.

Jen Williams, who is a finalist in the ‘Security Leader of the Year’ category, knows the legal sector is a massive target for cyber risk due to the amount of money they hold, and the confidentiality of the information held.

Within the organisation she has been the driving force in leading her own team of cyber professionals to educate employees and clients about the potential threats of cyber crime.

She has been instrumental in raising awareness and demonstrating leadership in this vertical, ever-changing market by creating and developing Today’s Legal Cyber Risk publication.

As an advocate for DMARC, Jen has executed the software personally into several law firms, while gaining qualifications and experience to lead the implementation of Cyber Essentials, IASME and ISO27001.

Jen’s sheer determination and proficiency has safeguarded the business’ network, while educating and protecting colleagues and clients, ensuring everyone is prepared for the impact of a cyber attack.

Jen commented on becoming a finalist:

“I’m absolutely delighted to have been shortlisted but must recognise the hard work that practical vision puts into making sure that all of its employees are given the support and development that they need to achieve their goals.”

Zoe Jones, who is a finalist in the ‘Team Leader of the Year (SME) category, single handedly created the business’ web development team from scratch.

She has also overhauled existing leading legal news publications, while building and developing platforms for upcoming new publications and assisted numerous clients by refurbishing their own website.

In addition, Zoe has developed the capabilities within the IT team through management of an apprentice.

Zoe Jones said of becoming a finalist:

I'm so happy just to have been shortlisted. I'm lucky to work in a place where they value their employees career development.”

The Women in IT Excellence Awards 2019 takes place on Wednesday 27th November at The Brewery London. Jen and Zoe will be attending the black-tie awards at the 18th century brewery, commencing with a drinks reception followed by a lavish dinner and awards ceremony.

Practical Vision Network, incorporating leading risk management solutions provider, Lawyer Checker, who is best known for its conveyancing risk tool Account & Entity Screen, which verifies the legitimacy of the firm on the other side of the transaction, has developed its own portfolio offering an array of cyber risk products.

With almost 50% of UK businesses suffering a cyber attack in the last year, according to HM Government, cyber crime is an ever-increasing blight on society - and one that can have a detrimental impact on the lives and businesses of those it touches. With Cyber criminals continually finding newer and bolder ways to attack firms and their clients, it is imperative that businesses are taking it seriously by implementing robust systems to mitigate the risk of fraud.
